Employee attributes define categories for classifying employees so that no employee has more than one attribute item from a single attribute at any one time. An employee attribute item is a single value for an employee attribute. An employee attribute expression is an expression which can be used as an argument in a payroll expense or liability function to limit the results based on the attribute items assigned to employees as of the GL posting date.

Employee attributes are maintained on the employee record in the Attributes table on the Employee tab.

To view all employee attributes, highlight the Payroll/Human Resources > Employees > Attributes folder and view them in the HD view. Drilling down on an attribute in the HD view opens the employee record to the Employee tab with focus on the attribute you clicked on.

Common accesses available on employee attributes

Access A user with this access can...
Change Use the mass change action on employee attributes.
Data Have read-only access to employee attributes from anywhere in the software (e.g., field validations, filters, date expressions).
Delete Delete employee attributes.
Edit Edit employee attribute records.
Read Have read-only access to employee attribute records.
Report Run reports with employee attribute information.
Report Designs Create and edit report designs with employee attribute information. This access enables the Report Designs button on the Output tab of report dialogs.
Shared Answers Create and edit action profiles and report profiles related to employee attributes.
Shared Filters Create and edit shared filters on employee attributes.
Visible View the Employees > Attributes folder in the Navigation pane.

Employee attribute items filters

The following built-in filters are available for employee attribute items:

Filter Name Effect
? Attribute Item Prompts for an attribute item or mask and lists employees with an attribute, attribute item, or both which match the search string.
? Attribute Name Prompts for an attribute name and lists employees that are assigned an attribute item for that attribute.
? Current Values Prompts for a date and lists attribute items assigned to employees as of that date.
? Employee Code Prompts for an employee code and lists attribute items for employees with an employee code that contains the specified search string.
? Employee Name Prompts for an employee name and lists attribute items for employees with a name that contains the specified search string.
Current Employees Lists attribute items for current employees.
